I’ve had the great honor of being Mary Sand’s assistant sculptor for a project commissioned by Spruce Meadows to create a life-size statue of Hickstead, the legendary show jumping stallion owned and ridden by Canadian Olympic competitor Eric Lamaze.
With Lamaze & Hickstead won individual gold and team silver at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, individual bronze at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (Ky.), where Hickstead was named Best Horse, and second place individually at the 2011 Rolex FEI World Cup Final. Spruce Meadows was home turf for Lamaze and Hickstead with an extensive list of accomplishments including the CN International cup in 2007 & 2011.
The statue was unveiled in the International arena at Spruce Meadows during the Master’s Tournament with Eric Lamaze and co-owner John Fleishhacker performing the unveiling. -
